Healthy homemade popsicles.

It's summer - my favorite time of year! Sunshine, relaxed schedules, heat, and longer days make for more time to play and just be creative.  And I got a fun new toy I'm super excited about! I picked this one up at World Market, but I also saw some at Costco the other day, and of course Amazon has them. Prime it up!

I'm always a fan of making my own version of things when I can. That way I know exactly what's in it, and I can control what all goes in. In this case, no added sugar, preservatives, dies, or synthetic ingredients. Most popsicles have no nutritional value, so I wanted to be able to add a dose of some "good stuff" in with mine so these treats are completely guilt-free and we can eat as many as we like. Here are a few recipes we've tried so far and they've all been delicious. One quick tip - be sure to read the instructions before you make these if you decide to purchase this popsicle maker. You have to let it sit in the freezer a day ahead of when you want to make pops, and also be sure not to fill them up above the fill line or you may not be able to get them out!!

Grape and blueberry pops:

  • 1/2 cup 100% grape juice
  • 2 TBSP frozen blueberries. I use Wyman's berries because you can literally taste how much better they are than any other brand - and they are wild grown which boosts antioxidant levels significantly

Mango Passion Pops

  • 1/2 Cup Mango juice blend (I got one at World Market, but any of those Naked or Odwalla type juices would work!)
  • 1 TBSP chopped peaches or bananas - whatever's your pleasure or you happen to have on hand
  • 1 TBSP raspberries

What are your favorite pop recipes? I think I want to try one with almond milk next!
